Purpose of MathMedia Educational Software Programs
My vision in creating this software curriculum is to provide a learning tool for the K-College classroom teacher for the following purposes:
-- supplement those students who need to “catch up” -- enhance learning for those who are “gifted” -- provide for those students who just don’t understand a topic -- boost the motivated students -- provide for the student who missed class for whatever issue (illness, family crisis, truancy).
In my own experience teaching five high school math classes per day, many of my free periods were spent explaining all the topics again to students who had missed class. Since the software follows the curriculum topic by topic, I could mark up the progress chart with what the student needs to work on in the computer lab or online anywhere. This is even beneficial for home school students.
What’s the point of a student sitting in class totally lost because the work is way beyond the understanding of the learner? We must start where the student is, not where the lock-step curriculum says they should be.
